An 83-year-old Muslim cleric who hid 262 Christians from killer herdsmen in June of 2018, says he did what he did because he values human life a lot, whether that life is Christian or Muslim. Imam Abubakar Abdullahi has been honored by the US and Nigerian governments for concealing the Christians in his mosque and home when suspected Muslim herders arrived baying for blood. The incident occurred in the Barkin Ladi area of Plateau State. The US International Religious Freedom Ambassador, Sam Brownback, says Imam Abdullahi is a great example for people of faith around the world. Brownback: "The imam gave refuge to his Christian neighbors, sheltering 262 Christians in his mosque and his home.... then stood outside the doors confronting the Muslim attackers, pleading with them to spare the lives of the Christians inside, even offering to exchange his own life for theirs.” Speaking on the sidelines of the 2019 Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah, Abdullahi said: “It has always been my cardinal principle to save a life, no matter who is involved, Christian or Muslim. Life to me is so precious to be wasted.” What do you make of this story?
