<h1>Nigerian striker Simy Nwankwo has revealed that the transfer market does not interest him amid speculation over his future.&nbsp;</h1>

After an impressive 2022/2021 season in Serie A where Nwankwo scored 20 goals in 38 games for Crotone.&nbsp;

Despite his impressive goal returns, Crotone got relegated, so the Nigerian is expected to leave for another club.&nbsp;

He, however, does not seem focused on the transfer window.&nbsp;

"I do not know. For now I'm in a place where I feel good and people love me, the transfer market doesn't interest me," he told Gazzetta dello Sport when he was asked about his future.&nbsp;

Despite dismissing concern about his future at Crotone, <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/crotones-sporting-director-says-simy-nwankwo-will-certainly-be-sold-following/d09wljq">the club's Sporting Director has revealed that the striker will certainly be sold</a>.

"Simy has requests from Serie A, but above all from the Bundesliga. Many Serie A teams have requested for him, and he will certainly be sold. Simy is on the market because he is in great demand", Crotone's Sporting Director Beppe Ursino told Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport earlier in June.&nbsp;

According to reports, newly promoted Salernitana lead the Serie A race for the Nigerian ahead of Lazio, Fiorentina, Sampdoria, Genoa and Monza.

There are also French and Belgian clubs interested in the Super Eagle, whose contract with Crotone ends in 2022.

The Nigerian striker scored 20 goals in Serie A in the just-ended season. Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku scored more league goals in Italy than the Nigeria international.

Nwankwo also broke and surpassed the record as the highest Nigerian scorer in a single Serie A season.

But with his team getting relegated, the 29-year-old striker has been linked with a move.&nbsp;

With the transfer speculations, Crotone's Sporting Director Beppe Ursino has revealed interest in the Nigerian forward from the German Bundesliga and the Serie A.

"Simy has requests from Serie A, but above all from the Bundesliga. Many Serie A teams have requested for him and he will certainly be sold. Simy is on the market because he is in great demand", Ursino told Italian newspaper, Corriere dello Sport.

<h1>Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has recalled in-form striker Simy Nwankwo and handed a first call-up to another frontman Terem Moffi in his preliminary squad for a friendly game against Cameroon.</h1>

On Friday, June 4, 2021, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will face fellow West Africans Cameroon in a friendly game at the Wiener Neustadt in the Austrian capital Vienna.&nbsp;

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have confirmed Rohr’s list of 31 players for the game.&nbsp;

It’s a provisional list that Rohr will whittle down to 23 before the friendly game.&nbsp;

The provisional squad has all the regular players, but there is a recall for Crotone striker Nwankwo.&nbsp;

<a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/gernot-rohr-says-simy-nwankwo-must-join-a-stronger-club-to-get-super-eagles-recall/sfm594s">The recall for Nwankwo</a> is a reward for his recent form, which has seen him score 19 goals to make him the highest-scoring Nigerian in a top-five league.&nbsp;

The 29-year-old has not played for the Super Eagles since September 2018.&nbsp;

Also in the squad is 21-year-old striker Moffi, who has been in impressive form for Lorient in French Ligue 1.&nbsp;

Terem Moffi has been given a debut call-up to the Super Eagles

The young striker has 14 league goals for Lorient in an outstanding season so far.&nbsp;

Rohr also handed first call-ups to forward Abraham Marcus, who plays for Portuguese side Feirense.&nbsp;

Umar Sadiq, who is having a fine season with Spanish second-tier side UD Almeria gets another call-up after he missed his first cause of COVID-19 enforced travel restrictions in the last international break.&nbsp;

There are other recalls for goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, German-based defender Kevin Akpoguma and Peter Olayinka, who plays for Slava Prague.&nbsp;

<h1>Despite being one of the most in-form Nigerian players currently, there is still no way back for Simy Nwankwo to the national team except he leaves Crotone and joins a ‘stronger club’, according to Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr.&nbsp;</h1>

<a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/simy-nwankwo-scores-a-brace-to-break-martins-aiyegbenis-records/n9d3vn5">Nwankwo is having an excellent individual season with Crotone</a>, with 19 goals in the Serie A and has only been outscored by Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo.&nbsp;

Rohr says he does not plan to recall the 28-year-old striker to the national team despite his fine form.&nbsp;

“I know Simy very well, it was me who called him for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He performed well at that competition, after which he played for some time in the Italian Serie B,” the Super Eagles boss told Europa Calcio.&nbsp;

“I have never forgotten about him and have always observed him, not just now that he is doing so well.

“However, the competition is huge: we have (Victor) Osimhen, (Kelechi) Iheanacho from Leicester and (Paul) Onuachu from Genk, who is very similar to Simy in terms of features and physical structure. Without forgetting (Umar) Sadiq and (Odion) Ighalo.

“So it is very difficult to be part of the Nigeria attack, we have very good players.&nbsp;

“As I said before, I have never stopped following his performances, but I believe that next year he must go and play in a club and in a team that is stronger than Crotone.

“It will not be equally easy, but he would already have a better chance of returning to the national team.”&nbsp;

Nwankwo has four caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria and was part of the team that went to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where he made two substitute appearances.&nbsp;

Rohr says Osimhen, Iheanacho, Onuachu are all ahead of Nwankwo in the Super Eagles.

Nwankwo scored in Crotone’s 3-2 loss away at Spezia; his goal came in the 78th minute to put his side 2-1 up.&nbsp;

It was a simple finish off a cross for his 16th goal of the season.&nbsp;

Nwankwo is not commended enough for his exploits this season for Serie A’s bottom side Crotone.&nbsp;

Since January, the 28-year-old has been in red-hot form for Crotone and has now scored in six straight Serie A games since March.&nbsp;

Aided by his incredible movement in the box and his exquisite finishing, Nwankwo has been able to stand out in an awful Crotone side.&nbsp;

With the kind of form he’s in, he should be in consideration for a Super Eagles call-up, especially when you take into consideration that he has outscored Super Eagles’ main striker Victor Osimhen in the same league.&nbsp;

However, Nwankwo had been in the team before without any significant impact and in his place is another in-form striker <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/paul-onuachu-scores-at-the-death-to-give-super-eagles-of-nigeria-a-1-0-win-over-benin/xtxxtsh">Paul Onuachu who in March</a> scored two goals in two for the Super Eagles.&nbsp;

Many also point to his weakness as a reason why he’s not getting the look in. Nwankwo lacks the pace to genuinely trouble defences.&nbsp;

His lack of dynamism seems to be why his exploits this season have been ignored, but consistency on this level for the rest of the season and maybe the next, and then we might start having another conversation.&nbsp;

Simy Nwankwo has scored in six straight Serie A games.

<h1>Nigerian striker Simy Nwankwo netted a brace in Serie A on Friday, March 12, 2021 and now has 12 goals this season.&nbsp;</h1>

Nwankwo’s brace was, however, not enough for Crotone, who lost 3-2 away at Lazio on Friday.&nbsp;

His first goal of the game came in the 29th minute to level the score for his side. He got the ball outside the box, beat a defender, and use his toe to finish past the goalkeeper with a low effort.&nbsp;

Crotone got behind again, and the Nigerian striker again drew them level from the penalty spot.&nbsp;

His brace could not secure any point as Lazio scored a winner in the 84th minute.&nbsp;

Simy now has 12 Serie goals in 27 games this season, with Crotone still bottom.

Nwankwo scored a brace to propel his side Crotone to a rare win in Serie A. The striker scored in both halves as Serie A’s bottom side Crotone beat Torino 4-2.&nbsp;

The first which put Crotone in the lead was a penalty in the 27th minute after a Torino defender handled the ball in the box.&nbsp;

Torino equalised in the 45th minute, and it was the Nigerian striker again that put Crotone in the lead with a goal in the 54th minute.&nbsp;

It came from a goal-mouth scramble after the goalkeeper had spilt the ball to his path. The Nigeria international now has 10 goals in 26 league games this season.

Osimhen made a goalscoring return to help Napoli to a 3-1 home win over Bologna.&nbsp;

The 21-year-old has not played since he suffered a <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/nigerian-striker-victor-osimhen-to-be-assessed-daily-after-a-nasty-head-knock-that/j98hxbv">nasty head knock during a game in late February</a>.&nbsp;

He returned with a substitute appearance in Sunday’s game. Just 12 minutes after he was brought in, he scored a decisive second for Napoli.&nbsp;

He controlled the just after the centre circle and raced into the Bologna penalty area before finishing past the goalkeeper.

That was also his second goal against Bologna, having scored in Napoli’s 1-0 win in the first leg in November 2020.&nbsp;

The young striker now has three Serie A this season.

It was a good Sunday for Nigerian strikers in Serie A.

<h1>Three Nigerian players who ply their trades abroad were on the scoresheet for their respective sides on Wednesday, March 3, 2021.&nbsp;</h1>

Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon and Simy Nwankwo all scored for their respective sides on Wednesday.&nbsp;

Iheanacho scored as Leicester City managed a 1-1 draw away at Burnley. The goal came courtesy of <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/wilfred-ndidi-assists-kelechi-iheanacho-as-leicester-city-are-held-by-burnley/gbr7ghr">a Nigerian connection</a>.&nbsp;

Wilfred Ndidi, who played as a centre back in the game, threaded a fine ball from the middle of the pitch into the Burnley box for Iheanacho to finish past the goalkeeper with a one-time volley.&nbsp;

That was the forward's second Premier League goal of the season.&nbsp;

"It was a brilliant goal. It was a good move, we kept the ball well, and then Wilf makes a great pass," Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers said after the game.

"It's good movement from the two strikers, and then fabulous technique."

In France, Nigerian winger Simon scored for Nantes who fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Riems in a Ligue 1 clash.&nbsp;

Simon scored the game's first goal with a 14th-minute header from a ball into the box. That was his fifth league goal of the season.&nbsp;

Although it hasn't been enough for Nantes, who have won just four of their 28 league games this season, the Nigerian is gradually picking up form. It will only take a miracle for the side who are second from the bottom to stay up.&nbsp;

Still, on struggling sides, Italian side Crotone received a 5-1 thrashing in the hands of Atalanta in the Serie A.

Crotone's only goal came from Nigerian striker Nwankwo. Nwankwo's goal came in the 23rd minute to bring his side level at 1-1.&nbsp;

He controlled a loose ball just outside the area and made a run into the penalty area before he chipped the onrushing goalkeeper for his goal.&nbsp;

Atalanta, however, later ran riot and scored four more goals to get a big win.&nbsp;

Nwankwo has an impressive eight league goals for Serie A's bottom team Crotone.&nbsp;

In Scotland, Joe Aribo had a good game for Rangers, who got a 1-0 win away at Livingston. Aribo was involved in everything good about Rangers on the night. Won crucial balls in the midfield and pushed the attack on several occasions.&nbsp;

And, of course, there were several fine runs into the box, something that has become a massive part of his game.&nbsp;

<h1>Football, like every aspect of our lives, hit a massive snag in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.</h1>

For almost four months, there were no football actions across the world as we came to grips with the effect of the COVID-19-the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.&nbsp;

Even when football returned, there were played without fans, a huge miss considering what fans bring to a football game.&nbsp;

Despite these challenges, the show went on with Nigerian stars playing their part in it.&nbsp;

In this Pulse Picks 2020 list, we write on the best 10 Nigerian footballers of 2020.&nbsp;

<h2>1. Victor Osimhen (Lille/Napoli)&nbsp;</h2>

Victor Osimhen had an excellent 2020 although much of what he achieved in the 2019/2020 season at Lille happened in 2019. Still, the striker remains one of Nigeria's best players.&nbsp;

He ended the 2019/2020 season with 18 goals in 38 appearances and also won the Club's Player of the Year.

He was included in Ligue 1's Team of the Season and won the 2020 Prix Marc-Vivien Foé which is the award for the best African player in Ligue 1.

In 2020, he also got a big move to Serie A side <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/the-full-story-of-victor-osimhens-record-move-to-napoli/hcff6rv">Napoli</a> where he started well before a shoulder injury sidelined him since early November.&nbsp;

<h2>2. Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City)&nbsp;</h2>

Wilfred Ndidi has been the most consistent and best Nigerian player in the last five years. Since he joined Premier League in January 2017, the midfielder has grown to become one of the best players in his position in the world, not just Nigeria.&nbsp;

In 2020, he continued in that stride. With his elite ball-winning abilities, the 24-year-old impressed again for Leicester City who for most of the 2019/2020 season punched above their weights with a battle for a top-four finish.

<a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/leicester-city-midfielder-wilfred-ndidi-returns-to-action-after-2-months-out-with/xr4v9m6">An injury layoff</a> has limited his impact in the latter part of 2020, but he has impressed again since he made his recent return.&nbsp;

Simy Nwankwo in 2020 was one of Nigeria's best strikers. He tore the Serie B-second division in Italy-apart with 20 goals which made him finish as <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/simy-nwankwo-on-target-as-crotone-wins-in-serie-b/e302ghw">top scorer of the division</a> in the 2019/2020 season.&nbsp;

The lanky striker offered so much upfront for Crotone in that season and scored different types of goals-from headers to sitters. His goals also helped Crotone return to the top flight where they are struggling.&nbsp;

<h2>4. Zaidu Sanusi (Santa Clara/Porto)</h2>

Zaidu Sanusi might have come into prominence in the latter part of 2020, but the left-back has been fantastic all through the year.&nbsp;

2020 was a good year for the 23-year-old. The defender made 21 league appearances for Santa Clara who managed a decent ninth-place in the Primeira Liga. His performances in that season were good enough to attract Portugues giant Porto who got the Nigerian to replace Brazilian Alex Telles who made a move to Manchester United.&nbsp;

For Porto, Sanusi has been brilliant, putting in fine performances and <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/zaidu-sanusi-gets-a-champions-league-goal-for-porto-to-continue-his-impressive/j1sfzfd">also excelling in Champions League night</a>.&nbsp;

In 2020, he also made his debut for the Super Eagles and has quickly established himself as the first-choice in the left-back role.&nbsp;

It's time to give Semi Ajayi his flowers. The central defender has been decent for a couple of years, but in 2020, his career experienced a lift. Starting from the previous year, Ajayi had a solid season for West Brom who secured promotion to the Premier League.&nbsp;

Ajayi enjoyed a fine partnership at the back with Kyle Bartley. An imposing centre back, the Nigerian showed composure and solidity at the back.

Despite his slight frame, the Nigerian played with a remarkable turn of pace and was also dominant in the air.

He also chipped in five goals in the league to finish as the joint-sixth scorer at West Brom, and some of these goals came in pivotal moments for Slaven Bilic's side including the second goal in their 2-0 win over Luton in February.

Ajayi's goal in that game came when West Brom was under pressure as Luton pressed for an equaliser. He doubled the lead to secure a win for West Brom after a seven-game winless run.

After making his name in Denmark, Paul Onuachu moved to Belgian to play in a considerably more competitive league in 2019. He couldn't replicate his Denmark form in Belgium in that first season, but he did manage to score nine goals in 22 league games.&nbsp;

In this season, however, the 26-year-old is <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/nigerian-footballers-abroad-paul-onuachu-cant-stop-scoring-while-zaidu-sanusi-is-now/pmv7jhh">soaring in Belgium</a> where he has 14 goals in 17 games.&nbsp;

The 2019/2020 season saw the emergence of Frank Onyeka, a player who had been at FC Midtjylland since 2016. After playing a bit-part role in his first two seasons, Onyeka showed himself to be a top talent with his performances for FC Midtjylland in the 2019/2020 season.

A player with a range of abilities, the 22-year-old played everywhere in midfield for FC Midtjylland. As a defensive midfield, he covered a lot of grounds and performed his defensive duties very well.

When asked to play further up in midfield, the Nigerian impressed again, with a 71% dribble success and a majority of his 84% pass accuracy coming in the opposition's half.

He dropped enormous performances for FC Midtjylland who finished the season with the league title and was rewarded with the club's Player of the Year award.

This season, he is on the same level, balling out every weekend for his side. In the Champions League, he managed to show his ball-winning ability and made more tackles plus interceptions than any other midfielder in the group stage.&nbsp;

Aribo came fully into Nigerians'radar when he committed to play for the Super Eagles and made his debut in October 2019.&nbsp;

Since then, he has been one of the most Nigerian consistent players. For Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, the 24-year-old made 25 starts in his side's 29 games as one of Steven Gerrard's most <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/joe-aribo-scores-for-rangers-in-scottish-premiership-win/9x5gmdc">trusted players at the club</a>.&nbsp;

This season, the Nigeria international has scored four goals in eight games. For the Super Eagles, he has continued to be one of the first picks.&nbsp;

2020 was the year Kelechi Iheanacho came back into reckoning. It started with a game in early December 2019 when he came on to assist and score the winner for Leicester City in a 2-1 home league win over Everton.&nbsp;

For the first quarter of the year, he continued with that form that forced him into the plans of Brendan Rodgers. He impressed in Leicester City's run to the semifinal of the League Cup and scored some vital league goals.

When the Premier League returned after it was first halted because of the pandemic, the 23-year-old was Leicester City best player in the games he played. Goals against Everton (again), Crystal Palace and his lively performance against Manchester United showed he belongs at <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/kelechi-iheanacho-is-showing-he-belongs-at-leicester-city/g13q2gd">Leicester City's level</a>.&nbsp;

This season, the 24-year-old has been impactful in most games he has played with three goals in six games in the Europa League.&nbsp;

It hasn't been a fantastic year by the standards of his talent and abilities, but Samuel Chukwueze did enough in the year in review to be rated among Nigeria's best players.&nbsp;

His notable performances for Villarreal came during La Liga's restart. This season he has been one of Villarreal's most influential players and has scored one and assisted one in 13 league games for the Yellow Submarines. He also has one goal in four Europa League games.&nbsp;

The 21-year-old remained one of the first picks in the Super Eagles and scored an incredible solo goal in the 4-4 draw against Sierra Leone in November.&nbsp;
