In response to the public's concerns, there have been calls for Absa Fall to adjust her behavior and align more closely with the expectations of the Senegalese people.

<h3>Senegal elects new president in 2024 </h3>

Bassirou Diomaye Faye, aged 44, made history as Senegal's youngest-ever president, inaugurated on Tuesday after his release from jail, where he had been detained as a political prisoner.

In his swearing-in ceremony, attended by his two wives, the former tax inspector vowed to combat corruption and address youth unemployment in the country.

"The election results reflect a profound desire for change. Senegal will emerge as a nation of hope, characterised by peace, an independent judiciary, and a strengthened democracy," Faye said.

Faye's release from prison occurred less than two weeks before the elections held in March, following a political amnesty declared by outgoing President Macky Sall. This also marks Faye's inaugural foray into elected office.

<h1>The Basketball Africa League (BAL) have announced the postponement of the inaugural season of the league over coronavirus fears.&nbsp;</h1>

The league which is a partnership between the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and NBA, was scheduled to kick off on Friday, March 13 in Dakar, Senegal.&nbsp;

BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall says the postponement was a recommendation of the Senegalese government.&nbsp;

“I am disappointed we are not able to tip-off this historic league as scheduled but look forward to the highly-anticipated launch of the BAL at a later date,” Fall said in a statement.&nbsp;

The new professional league which will feature 12 club teams from across Africa, is the NBA’s first collaboration to operate a league outside North America.

The coronavirus which originated from Wuhan in China has spread to other parts of the world with more than 93, 000 cases confirmed around the world and over 3000 deaths.&nbsp;

In Africa, Senegal, where BAL is due to hold, has recorded its first case along with Nigeria, Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt.&nbsp;

<h1>Five-time African Beach Soccer champions Senegal finished top after three games to go home with the 2019 Copa Lagos title. </h1>

The 2019 edition of globally acclaimed and prestigious beach soccer event held at the Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island, Lagos between Friday, November 1 to Sunday, November 3.

Senegal and Brazil kicked off the competition on Friday with a game that ended 5-4 in favour of the African side. Nigeria and England followed with a 7-3 win to the host.

On Saturday, reigning world beach soccer champions Brazil beat England 6-2 while Senegal got a 5-2 victor over Nigeria.

On the final day, Senegal continued their winning run with a 3-2 win over England while Brazil saw off Nigeria 7-5.

According to the NFF, the goal came in the 20th-minute after a defensive mix up in the Super Eagles defence.

Gernot Rohr’s men created a couple of chances that fell to Odion Ighalo and Wilfred Ndidi in the first half but they could not find an equaliser.

Samuel Chukweuze could have scored for the Super Eagles in the second half but the Villarreal forward was blocked by a last-ditch tackle.

Oghenekaro Etebo who came on as a substitute in the second half rattled the crossbar with a freekick.

Rohr started the game with Daniel Akpeyi in goal in a three-man defence setup. Samuel Kalu and Jamilu Collins played the wing-back roles, whole John Ogu joined Kenneth Omeruo and William Troost-Ekong in defence. Mikel Obi partnered Ndidi in central midfield while Chukweueze and Alex Iwobi supported Ighalo upfront.

Ola Aina, Oghenekaro Etebo, Henry Onyekuru, Moses Simon, Victor Osimhen and Chidozie Awaziem came on as substitutes in the game.

<h1>The Flying Eagles of Nigeria on Monday, June 3 lost 2-1 to Senegal in a round of 16 game to crash out of the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup. </h1>

Nigeria fell to two first-half goals from Senegal and although they pulled one back early in the second half, Paul Aigbogun's boys could not get an equaliser.

The loss ends Nigeria’s 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup where they failed to sparkle after struggling to progress from the group stage.

With just four points, the Flying Eagles could only manage to reach the round of 16 as one of the four best third-place teams.

They didn’t show any sign of improvement from the group stages as they failed to trouble Senegal although they did manage to create some chances.

The chance came in the 34th after Aniekeme Okon’s pass freed Success Makanjuola who found Yira Sor but the striker’s first effort was blocked by Senegal goalkeeper Dialy Ndiaye who recovered well again to catch Sor’s effort from the rebound.

Two minutes later, Senegal took the lead through Amadou Sagna who used his pace to get in a good position before finishing in the bottom corner.

Senegal were cautious in the game, as they managed the game at a slow pace while the Flying Eagles harried in search of an equaliser.

In the added time just before halftime, Senegal doubled their lead through Niane who used his knee to finish a cross from Alpha Diounkou in an empty net.

The Flying Eagles started the second half on the front foot and were rewarded with a goal in the 50th minute through Makanjuola who diverted an Ikoumen Utin free kick.

The Flying Eagles had more of the ball for most of the second half but failed to create any chances and trouble the Senegalese defence who held firm.

<h1>The Super Eagles of Nigeria will play friendly games against Senegal and Zimbabwe ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have announced. </h1>

Nigeria will be competing in their 18th AFCON tournament in Egypt and have been drawn in Group B alongside <a href="https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/super-eagles-of-nigeria-to-face-guinea-madagascar-and-burundi-in-group-b-of-afcon/mg3sx55" id="b005dccd-3b45-46ab-b981-f88d2478f532">Guinea, Madagascar and Burundi</a>.

Ahead of the tournament, the NFF have revealed that the Super Eagles camp will first face Zimbabwe at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on Saturday, June 8 before another friendly against Senegal this time in Egypt on Sunday, June 16.

The Super Eagles camp ahead of AFCON 2019 will open in Asaba on Sunday, June 2 before they fly out to Egypt for the final camping.

Zimbabwe and Senegal are also preparing for AFCON 2019 with the former in Group A alongside host Egypt, DR Congo, and Uganda while the latter are in Group C alongside Algeria, Kenya and Tanzania.

Senegal are the number one-ranked African team on the FIFA Ranking while Zimbabwe are 110th in world football.

“We have sealed the matches with the Warriors of Zimbabwe and the Lions of Teranga and these are two matches we are really looking forward to,” NFF president Amaju Pinnick said in a statement on the federation’s website.

“There cannot possibly be a better way to get into the AFCON spirit than playing the number one –ranked team in Africa just before the finals begin.”

The Super Eagles will kick off their AFCON 2019 campaign with a game against Burundi on Saturday, June 22.

They will also take on Guinea on Wednesday, June 26 and Madagascar on Sunday, June 30 also in the group stage.

<h1>Mali on Sunday, February 17 beat Senegal on penalties in the final of the 2019 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to win their first title. </h1>

After beating Nigeria to get their first U20 AFCON final, Mali took a step further by clinching the title after a nervy final played in Niamey.

The final got to penalties after the game and extra-time ended at 1-1. It was Mali that scored first before Senegal equalised to force the game to extra time and then penalties.

Mali took the lead in the 15th minute through Mamoutou Kane who hammered home Hadji Drame’s pass.

That was the first time Senegal were going behind at the 2019 AFCON and they fought back through FC Metz forward Amadou Ndiaye who volleyed in from close range.

The game was forced into extra time but both teams couldn’t get another goal.

In the penalty shoot-out, Senegal missed their first spot-kick which hit the post while the Malians converted their next three consecutively.

The tournament's leading goalscorer Amadou Ndiaye later missed for Senegal before teammate Ousseynou Niang also missed to secure Mali the title.

This was revenge for Mali who had been beaten 2-0 by Senegal earlier in the group stage of the tournament.

It was also a third successive final loss for Senegal in this tournament but they can take solace in the fact that they had earlier qualified for the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup courtesy of their place in the semifinals.

Nigeria who finish fourth, South Africa who grabbed brace and winners Mali are the other African representatives at the World Cup.

Ndiaye of Senegal finished as the highest goalscorer of the tournament while teammate Moussa Ndiaye was named Player of the Tournament.

This was revenge for Mali who had been beaten 2-0 by Senegal earlier in the group stage of the tournament.
