Falana’s remarks come shortly after Adeboye claimed divine intervention had stabilised Nigeria’s currency.

Speaking at the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, Adeboye stated, “If not for the prayers of my followers and myself, the naira could have fallen to ₦10,000 per dollar.”

“We were aware that the root of our financial issues lay in the importation of petrol,” Adeboye said, criticising billions spent on nonfunctional refineries.

The cleric also addressed the controversy over the removal of fuel subsidies by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“When the president cancelled the subsidy on petrol imports, those who benefited from it became upset and created more problems,” he remarked.

Adeboye emphasised the need for divine intervention in tackling Nigeria’s financial woes. “We need help, and it’s not human help; it’s divine help,” he stated.

“If God hadn’t intervened, $1 could have been worth ₦10,000 by now,” he revealed, urging Nigerians to intensify their prayers for the nation’s economic recovery.

These accusations emerged through anonymous messages reportedly sent to a popular blog, with the individuals alleging sexual abuse by the two church leaders.

In a statement released by the RCCG leadership, National Overseer Pastor Sunday Akande confirmed the suspension and emphasised the church’s commitment to upholding biblical principles.

“This memo serves to inform you of serious allegations of homosexuality against Pastor Ayorinde Ade Bello and Deacon Oke Mayowa,” read Akande’s memo, which was distributed to all national church organs.

RCCG officials underscored the importance of conducting a thorough and confidential inquiry. The church’s doctrine, as emphasised in the statement, strictly opposes acts of homosexuality, citing specific Bible verses such as Leviticus 18:22 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 to clarify its stance.

"As you are aware, the doctrine of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) does not allow or tolerate any act of homosexuality,” the church stated.

The investigation, which is expected to conclude within two weeks, aims to maintain confidentiality while ensuring all involved parties are treated with respect.

Both AdeBello and Mayowa have been instructed to fully cooperate and remain temporarily relieved of their duties during this period.

“Please ensure that the investigation is conducted confidentially and with respect for all parties involved,” Akande stated, adding that the church would handle the matter with “care and integrity.”

"Years ago, I was duped by a man who promised to make me a commandant of a paramilitary group.

"This man had been contacting me through my secretary for a while, and one day I agreed to meet him. He claimed a Boy Scouts-like group had evolved into a new agency and needed spiritual leadership," Adeboye recounted.

He reflected on the experience and shared, "I lost money in that experience, but it could have been much worse. God knew my heart's desire, and He had already planned for Redemption City to have its own corps of chaplains and a local police post. I thought I could bring my desire to pass on my own, but I was wrong."

Adeboye's message to his followers was clear: Trust in God's timing and avoid the temptation to rush ahead of divine plans.

"It's not wrong to desire wealth or success, but let it come in God's time. Don't try to run ahead of Him," he advised, emphasising that divine understanding surpasses human ambition.

His story reminds us to balance personal desires with spiritual discernment, ensuring that ambitions align with God's greater plan.
