<h2>Nigeria was plunged into darkness once again on Thursday, November 7, as the country’s national power grid collapsed around 11:20 a.m., sparking widespread frustration and social media uproar.</h2>

This marks the second collapse in a week and the twelfth in the past eleven months, raising concerns over the stability of Nigeria’s energy infrastructure.

The collapse was confirmed on X by the official handle of the Nigeria National Grid, @NationalGridNg, with the post, “BREAKING: Another Grid Setback Experienced.”

Many Nigerians expressed their frustration and disappointment over the recurring outages, flooding social media with calls for immediate reforms and accountability.

While the exact cause of Thursday’s blackout remains undisclosed, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to release a formal statement.

Earlier in the week, TCN attributed the Tuesday grid failure to “lines and generator trips.”

In response to the ongoing crisis, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/local/minister-attributes-grid-collapses-to-vandalism-lack-of-maintenance/q1gjzqm">received an investigative report on the frequent grid collapses</a> on Wednesday, November 6.

The report’s findings, however, have not been publicly revealed, leaving Nigerians eager for answers.

The recent collapses have led to<a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/adelabu-survives-cabinet-reshuffle-amid-incessant-grid-collapses/ds173lq"> heightened calls for Adelabu’s resignation,</a> with citizens questioning the government's ability to provide a stable power supply.

The continuing grid failures have severely impacted businesses and households nationwide, highlighting the urgency for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure.

<h2>Nigeria’s national electricity grid collapsed once again on Tuesday, November 5, plunging several cities into darkness and sparking fresh concerns over the country’s power infrastructure.</h2>

The <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/local/tcn-restores-power-in-kaduna-kano-bauchi-and-gombe-after-prolonged-blackout/fcledn8">Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN)</a> confirmed the partial disruption, attributing it to a chain reaction of line and generator trippings that destabilised the grid.

“At approximately 1:52 p.m., the grid experienced a partial disturbance,” announced Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs for TCN.

She explained that although the power disruption was significant, it did not affect all parts of the country, with sections of the grid still functioning.

“The data from the National Control Centre (NCC) revealed that a part of the grid was not affected by the bulk power disruption,” she added.

TCN engineers began immediate restoration efforts, successfully restoring power to Abuja by 2:49 p.m.

“We are gradually restoring power to other parts of the country. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause our electricity customers,” Mbah stated.

Meanwhile, Pulse Nigeria correspondent in Abuja authoritatively reports that power has not yet been restored in some major areas of the FCT metropolis.

As of 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, areas like Wuye, Utako, Jabi, Jahi, and the Kado axis were still experiencing power outages.

Similarly, the Games Village, Durumi, Gaduwa, Gudu, Apo, and Lokogoma axes are experiencing blackouts at the time of this report.

The collapse highlights persistent challenges in Nigeria’s power sector, including regulatory uncertainties, transmission constraints, and inadequate gas supplies.

Despite the 2013 privatisation of power generation and distribution companies, aimed at improving sector efficiency, grid stability has remained elusive.

The repeated failures of the national grid underscore the need for systemic improvements.

<h2>The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced significant progress in recovering the national grid following a partial power outage on Monday, October 14, at 6:48 PM. </h2>

Efforts to restore power commenced immediately, with the Azura power station playing a crucial role in initiating the black start process.

Despite reaching advanced recovery stages by 10:24 AM today, <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/nigeria-power-grid-collapses-twice-in-24-hours/9z4zfjp">TCN encountered a minor setback temporarily hindering progress. </a>

"The slight setback notwithstanding, TCN continued with the grid recovery process, which has reached an advanced stage," the company stated, ensuring bulk power availability to approximately 90% of its substations nationwide.

Power supply has been successfully restored to critical areas, including the Abuja axis and other major distribution load centres across the country.

Notably, the Ibom Gas generating station remained unaffected by the disturbance, maintaining its supply to regions in the South-South, including Eket, Ekim, Uyo, and the Itu 132kV transmission substations.

Looking ahead, TCN plans to thoroughly <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/local/nigerians-in-darkness-as-national-grid-collapses-again/1ch58bn">investigate the cause of the incident</a> once the grid is fully restored.

"Investigation into the cause of the incident will be carried out as soon as the grid is fully restored," assured Ndidi Mbah, GM of Public Affairs.

The ongoing efforts highlight TCN's commitment to maintaining stability in Nigeria's power supply system, even amid challenges.

TCN issues fresh update on national grid collapse

<h2>Nigeria's national power grid collapsed again today at 9:17 a.m., marking the second system failure in less than 24 hours and impacting millions of electricity customers. </h2>

Ikeja Electric Plc and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), two of Nigeria's major power distribution companies, confirmed the outage and assured customers that efforts were underway to restore power.

In a public statement, Ikeja Electric addressed affected customers, stating, "Please be informed that we experienced another system outage today, 15/10/24, at 09:17 hrs, affecting supply within our network."

The company emphasised that it was actively coordinating with key partners to <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/local/nigerians-in-darkness-as-national-grid-collapses-again/1ch58bn">restore power as quickly as possible. </a>

"Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders," the management noted, asking for customer patience during the prolonged outage.

Similarly, Eko Electricity Distribution Company echoed the disruption, sharing that the system collapse had led to power losses across their network.

"We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power supply is restored," EKEDC's management assured.
