With Romo out at least eight weeks with a broken collarbone, the Cowboys sent a 2017 fifth-round pick to the Bills for Cassel and a 2017 seventh-round pick to the Bills for Cassel after opting against signing a free-agent QB.

Dallas owner Jerry Jones has confidence in Weeden, who completed all seven of his pass attempts on Sunday following Romo's injury.

The Cowboys also promoted former Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore from the practice squad.

Cassel has made 72 career starts during his time in the NFL, where he has played for the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings before joining the Bills this year.
