'The main man' - Mo Salah returns to training with Liverpool after AFCON heartbreak
After tears in the AFCON final, Salah is back smiling at Liverpool.
The 29-year-old star, left Liverpool back in January to participate in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.
Salah captained the Egyptian national team as they progressed to the final of the competition.
The Liverpool star could not prevent Egypt from losing on penalties to Senegal in the final.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher took to social media to criticize Salah for waiting to take the fifth penalty for Egypt.
A statement by Carragher on Twitter said, "That is why your best penalty taker should never go fifth. Mo Salah not taking a penalty for Egypt in a shootout in a final is madness. Also happened to Ronaldo years ago for Portugal v Spain. #AFCON2021 #SENEGY."
Salah took the fifth penalty as Egypt beat Ivory Coast in the quarterfinals but was unable to take in the final with the result settled after the spot-kick by Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane.
Mane has been excused to participate in the celebrations back home in Senegal.
On Salah's return to training with Liverpool, defender Virgil Van Dijk hailed Salah as the main man.
Salah is expected to return to action when Liverpool welcomes Leicester City at Anfield in a Premier League fixture scheduled for Thursday, February 10, 2022.
