Reactions as Mexico beat Super Eagles 2-1 in friendly game

The Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered a 2-1 loss to El Tri of Mexico in an international friendly fixture played on Sunday, May 29, 2022.

It was the first game for new Super Eagles boss Jose Peseiro who was recently appointed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)

Mexico started the first half well and went ahead in the 12th minute through Santiago Tomas Gimenez.

The Super Eagles ended the first half putting pressure on Mexico but they went to break behind.

The Super Eagles started the second half on a positive note as Feyenoord striker and Europa Conference League top scorer Cyriel Dessers converted a ball through to him by Calvin Bassey in the 54th minute to equalize for Nigeria.

The lead did not last long as captain William Troost-Ekong blasted the ball by Francis Uzoho to put Mexico back in front in the 56th minute.

The Super Eagles pressed on late to get an equalizer but Mexico held on to the lead and sealed yet another victory against Nigeria.

Super Eagles captain Ekong was under fire for his performance in the friendly game against Mexico.

The Watford defender was at fault for the opening goal and thundered the second goal for Mexico into his own net.

Several Nigerians were of the opinion that Ekong does not deserve to be an automatic in the Super Eagles set up anymore.
