Last Minute Goal Saves Portugal In The Brazil World Cup 2014

Just as it looked as though the Americans had secured a victory from the bottom to the top to qualify for the second round, Portuguese substitute Silvestre Varela grabbed a dramatic stoppage-time equalizer deep into injury time to secure a 2-2 draw with the United States in World Cup Group G on Sunday. Silvestre Varela scored with a flying header from a Cristiano Ronaldo cross which miraculously kept Portugal and world footballer of the year Chri RONALDO in the World Cup as their Group G clash with the USA ended in a dramatic draw in Manaus.

The World Cup this year has been full of surprises. No one could have anticipated the struggle Spain, England, Nigeria and even Italy have experience this time around placing them in preliminary trouble waters. However, these last group matches, this week will determine who will stay and who will be going home.

Meanwhile, the much-anticipated England tennis club tournament (Wimbledon 2014) kicks off today. Seeing the likes of Andy Murray beginning his Wimbledon campaign against David Goffin this Monday and notably absent was 2013 champion Marion Bartoli. She was the first woman in 17 years who declined to try to defend her Wimbledon title. Still, Bartoli held the traditional reigning champion’s pre-tournament news conference Sunday, when she explained she has zero lingering doubts about retiring at age 28, less than two months after winning her only Grand Slam trophy and also explained precisely why she quit the sport.
