Andy Murray produced multiple comebacks to get past Grigor Dimitrov at the Western and Southern Open, while Rafael Nadal bowed out.

British world number two Murray battled to a 4-6 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 win over Dimitrov, saving a match point on his way to victory in Cincinnati.

Having dropped the first set, Murray looked in trouble a double-break down at 4-1 in the second before winning three straight games to level the match.

The rollercoaster match, which featured several long points as the two went at each other from the baseline, continued in the third.

Murray broke in the opening game but then found himself 5-2 down before rallying once more to get back on serve at 4-5.

He saved a match point when serving to stay in it and then broke in the 11th game, with the contest over after two hours, 58 minutes when Dimitrov sent a backhand into the net.

Murray will face Richard Gasquet after the Frenchman proved too good for Marin Cilic 7-5 6-3.

Nadal's unconvincing hard-court form continued as he went down to fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 5-7 6-4 7-6 (7-3).

The 14-time grand slam champion holds an 11-6 win-loss record on hard-courts this year.

Lopez will meet Roger Federer, who took just 55 minutes to crush South African Kevin Anderson 6-1 6-1.

World number one Novak Djokovic eventually prevailed against talented Belgian David Goffin, completing a 6-4 2-6 6-3 win.

The Serbian will face Stan Wawrinka, who edged Ivo Karlovic 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-5) despite the Croatian's 35 aces.

Tomas Berdych crushed Tommy Robredo 6-0 6-1 and Alexandr Dolgopolov claimed a 6-3 3-6 6-4 win over Jerzy Janowicz.
