Andy Murray said his win at the Rogers Cup had given him plenty of confidence ahead of the US Open.

The British world number two is preparing for a second-round clash against American Mardy Fish at the Western and Southern Open, having claimed the title in Montreal on Sunday.

Murray broke a two-year winless run against Novak Djokovic with his victory in the Rogers Cup decider.

The 28-year-old said that had given him the confidence he needed on hard courts, as he continues preparations for the year's final grand slam starting August 31.

"I feel good, obviously the last couple of matches I felt like I played very well," Murray said.

"It is quite different conditions here so it will take a few days to get used to them.

"Hopefully I can try to get through my first match somehow and hopefully start to feel better as the week goes on but obviously last week was great for me.

"Regardless of how I play here, it's good that I managed to get a lot of matches in last week on the hard courts. It's a good win for the confidence."

Murray's maiden grand slam title came at Flushing Meadows in 2012, before he added the Wimbledon crown in 2013 to his collection.

The Brit has made back-to-back quarter-finals in New York since his win three years ago.
