Delon Armitage has appealed against the 12-week suspension handed out to him by European Professional Club Rugby (ERPC).
The Toulon man received the ban after an incident with supporters during the French side's 25-21 defeat to Leicester Tigers in the European Rugby Champions Cup at Welford Road on December 7.
Armitage's suspension renders him unavailable to play until March 8 2015, but the 31-year-old could be back earlier after filing his appeal on Wednesday.
"Delon Armitage has lodged an appeal against the 12-week suspension imposed on him by an independent Disciplinary Committee as a result of a misconduct complaint following his club's Champions Cup," an ERPC statement read.
"The Disciplinary Committee found that Armitage had directed abusive language at Leicester Tigers supporters after the match and was therefore guilty of misconduct.
"The appeal will be heard in London on Thursday, 8 January 2015 by an independent Appeal Committee."
