Australian Rugby Union (ARU) chief Bill Pulver hasĀ confirmed discussions with Jarryd Hayne have taken placeĀ about a potential move to the code.

Hayne, 28, has gone from the NRL to the NFL to rugby sevens, with his bid to head to the Olympics with Fiji failing.

However, the former Dally M Medallist could be set for a move to rugby union and to Super Rugby outfit Waratahs.

"We have had dialogue with Jarryd and discussed the potential opportunities available to him in rugby," Pulver told the Daily Telegraph.

"Jarryd is obviously a very high calibre athlete and we are always open to talking to a player who is genuinely interested in playing the game."

Hayne is ineligible to play for Australia because of his attempt to feature for Fiji at the Games.

But Wallabies coach Michael Cheika believes the former Parramatta Eels star could still be beneficial to the sport as a whole.

"I don't know anything about it because he's not eligible to play for Australia," he told Fox Sports.

"But [he's a] marquee player, like we've had marquee foreign players here in the past that have made valuable contributions."
