Rio 2016 Olympic Games Laura Trott makes Olympics history

Laura Trott became the most successful British female Olympian by winning the omnium before her future husband Jason Kenny made history in Rio.

Jason Kenny matched Chris Hoy's Great British record of six Olympic gold medals after his fiancee Laura Trott became Team GB's most decorated female Olympian on a dramatic final night of track cycling in Rio.

Kenny had already won two golds in these Games and completed a hat-trick by winning the keirin after facing an anxious wait to discover if he had been disqualified for overtaking the derny bike prematurely.

The Englishman was cleared to line up in a restart, but a third start was needed after the derny was overtaken too soon once again before Kenny outpaced his rivals to take yet another gold at the Velodrome.

Kenny joins fellow track cycling great Chris Hoy on six gold medals after ensuring Matthijs Buchli of the Netherlands and Malaysian Azizulhasni Awang won silver and bronze respectively.

The brilliant Trott blew her rivals away to retain the omnium title she won in London four years ago, securing her standing as Britain's greatest female Olympic athlete.

Trott now has four Olympic gold medals to her name at the age of 24 after racking up 230 points, finishing 24 better off than American silver medallist Sarah Hammer, with Jolien D'Hoore taking bronze for Belgium.

Great Britain were unable to claim another gold in the women's sprint, with Germany's Kristina Vogel making sure Becky James had to settle for a second silver of the Games, but Katy Marchant's sprint bronze ensured every member of Team GB's track cycling team won a medal in Rio, where they have taken 11 in total.

There was a tense end to the track cycling meeting when Kenny was among the riders to be in danger of being disqualified, but after uncertainty they were given the all clear.

Kenny bided his time when the keirin showdown finally burst into life and showed blistering speed to add another gold to his collection.

Great Britain's golden couple Kenny and Trott embraced on another famous night for British cycling.

Trott and Kenny went down in the record books for Great Britain, but there were no new record times on the last day of competition.

"I still feel like that little girl just riding around on a bike, but now I have all these gold medals." - An emotional Trott was stunned after her record-breaking exploits.

"I hope not. I like my life. It used to frustrate me a little bit with the guys around me getting cars and bits and pieces like that, but I like to flounder around doing what I like. It's not like I'm starving to death. We're really well funded so we can do what we love." - Kenny reacts to being asked if his life will change following his achievements in Rio.

"I rode without a saddle - I rode without a saddle. Did you see it? It was crazy. I had some problems with the bike before, and we tried to fix it, but obviously not enough. I had a problem with the seat post, and the saddle fell off. I have a special place in my home for a medal and a saddle." - Kristina Vogel reacts on taking gold despite some significant problems with her bike.
