Olympics Rio 2016: Fourth gold for brilliant Simone Biles

One of the standout performers of Rio 2016, Simone Biles, won her fourth gold medal as Oleg Verniaiev and Fabian Hambuechen also triumphed.

Simone Biles produced a typically magnificent floor routine to claim her fourth gold medal of the Rio Olympics on Tuesday.

The brilliant Biles has lived up to the high expectations placed on her ahead of her maiden Games, achieving success in the vault, individual all-around and team all-around competitions prior to her latest success.

Biles' bid for a record-breaking five golds ended on Monday when she had to settle for bronze on the balance beam.

However, the 19-year-old American was a class apart on the floor as she nailed a succession of high-difficulty routines to earn a score of 15.966.

She becomes the fifth woman, after Ecaterina Szabo, Vera Caslavska, Agnes Keleti and Larisa Latynina, to claim four gymnastics golds in one Games.

Aly Raisman - another member of the victorious US team - again took silver behind Biles, as she had in the individual all-around event.

The bronze went to 16-year-old Amy Tinkler - the youngest member of Britain's Olympic team.

Six days on from being pipped to all-around gold by Kohei Uchimura, Oleg Verniaiev claimed gold in the men's parallel bars final.

A tremendous score of 16.041 saw the Ukrainian edge out the USA's Danell Leyva (15.900) and David Belyavskiy (15.783).

Defending champion Epke Zonderland suffered a nasty fall in the high bar final, enabling Fabian Hambuechen - the silver medallist four years ago - to claim gold.

Leyva again finished second, with Britain's Nile Wilson third.
