Anthony Ervin's Olympic campaign ended in golden fashion on Friday and the 35-year-old is eager to finally meet his newborn daughter.

Ervin topped the podium in the men's 50 metre freestyle, having already helped the United States to gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

However, such has been the 35-year-old's focus on competing at Rio 2016 he is yet to see his daughter, born while he was at the US Olympic swimming trials which took place between June 26 and July 3.

Having got the medal around his neck at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium, Ervin was pleased to have the chance to focus on his family again.

"It's like a thunderbolt because I had a daughter born while I was at Olympic trials and, while I planned on being there for the birth, I couldn't because I was still at the meet," said Ervin.

"I got swirled up in the Olympics, so I haven't had a chance to meet her yet and I will try to send a message to her after my race."

Despite becoming the oldest swimming champion at an Olympics with his victory on Friday, Ervin remains intent on competing at Tokyo 2020.
