Eoin Morgan has hinted England could play Liam Dawson as a third spinner in their opening ODI with Pakistan on Wednesday.
England captain Eoin Morgan is contemplating deploying three spinners in Wednesday's opening one-day international against Pakistan at The Rose Bowl.
Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid have provided England's spin options in recent times, but Hampshire's Liam Dawson is also in the squad and could feature.
With the pitch in Southampton looking very dry on the eve of the match, Morgan admitted he may draft Dawson in to enable England to take full advantage of the conditions.
"Having Liam Dawson brings the option of playing three spinners and that is something we might have to take into consideration as we look ahead to the winter tours of Bangladesh and India," said Morgan.
"It will be a very tough series against Pakistan, especially as the recent warm weather means conditions may suit them more than they suit us initially. It is a good test leading into the winter."
For Pakistan, skipper Azhar Ali hopes they can build on their battling display in the fourth Test at The Oval when they rescued a 2-2 draw in the series.
"We have very good potential in one-day cricket, we've certainly got belief," he said.
"It's really important going into any series, you need to have belief and trust in the ability of the players. If we bring our 'A' game we definitely will compete."
