NRL NRL Maguire delighted to secure Inglis extension

After Greg Inglis agreed a new deal until 2020, South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire spoke of his delight.

South Sydney Rabbitohs head coach Michael Maguire is delighted to have secured the future of captain Greg Inglis after the 29-year-old agreed a new three-year contract.

Inglis' future with the Bunnies had been in doubt as speculation grew he could move to the Brisbane Broncos, but he put paid to those rumours by signing an extension until 2020.

Since arriving in Sydney in 2011 Inglis has made 124 appearances for the Rabbitohs, while also featuring in 35 Tests for Australia and 30 State of Origin matches for Queensland.

For Maguire, the news is a huge boost for South Sydney as they look to build on a disappointing 2016 NRL campaign that saw them finish 12th.

"Greg is not only a phenomenal footballer, as his playing record shows, but he is also becoming one of the great leaders in our game and in society," Maguire told the club's official website.

"I have known and worked with Greg for a long time and to watch him grow into the leader and the man he has, both on and off the field, is a credit to his dedication to his football, as well as the community and his family.

"It's great news for the team, the club and the whole South Sydney community to know that Greg will be part of us at least until the end of 2020."

Inglis was also pleased to have penned the new deal and expressed his hope that he can add to the club's history in the coming years.

"This is a wonderful club to be part of, a great team to play with, and I'm really happy to know what my family’s future holds for the next four years," Inglis said.

"This club has a history of success and I'm confident that as a group we are going to be able to add to that success in the coming years."
