The Sharks led the way going into this round of fixtures courtesy of their slightly superior points difference over the Storm but face an enticing showdown with the reigning premiers on Monday.

And Melbourne have now turned the points difference discrepancy on its head as they surged to the top of the table in style.

The Storm made light work of the second-bottom Roosters, running in eight tries - with three coming from winger Suliasi Vunivalu.

Scrum-half Cooper Cronk chipped in with a double while Cameron Smith was excellent with the boot, converting seven tries to give the Storm a significant boost in their bid to claim the minor premiership.

Parramatta Eels dealt Gold Coast Titans' play-off push a blow with a 22-12 win at Marrara Oval in Darwin.

The Eels - playing their annual game in the Northern Territory - were grateful to a fine performance from Michael Gordon, who scored 14 points to help seal victory. Parramatta now has 18 points to their name but is set to be docked 12 for salary cap breaches.

Elsewhere, bottom club Newcastle Knights were thumped 50-14 by New Zealand Warriors as winger David Fusitu'a ran riot.

Fusitu'a ran in four tries - with three coming in the second half - while prop Albert Vete scored twice in a win that sees the Warriors leapfrog the Titans into the top eight.
