Victor Martinez blasted three home runs for the Detroit Tigers in MLB on Thursday, while Edwin Encarnacion continued delivering.

Martinez smashed three homers – all solo shots – as the Tigers claimed a 10-4 win over the Kansas City Royals.

Edwin Encarnacion continued his red-hot form, going two-for-four with four RBIs as the Toronto Blue Jays thrashed the Philadelphia Phillies 13-2.

Adam Jones had three RBIs as the Baltimore Orioles earned a 5-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox and the Texas Rangers saw off the Oakland Athletics by the same scoreline.

The New York Mets held on to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 and the Yankees were 4-1 winners over the Minnesota Twins.

The Milwaukee Brewers scored twice in the ninth to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-6 and the Washington Nationals overcame the San Diego Padres 8-5.

The Seattle Mariners edged the Tampa Bay Rays 6-4 and the Atlanta Braves were too strong for the Cincinnati Reds in a 7-2 victory.

Martinez blasted three home runs in a three-for-five day. All three of Martinez's homers were solo shots. The 37-year-old designated hitter is the oldest Tigers player to hit three homers in a game since Ty Cobb did it in 1925 at the age of 39.

The best catch on Thursday was made in Philadelphia, but it did not happen on the field. A dad in the stands made a bare-handed, one-handed grab of a foul ball, while holding his daughter.

Dodgers pitcher Scott Kazmir had never faced the Brewers prior to Thursday. But with Thursday's start, Kazmir has now faced all 30 MLB teams in his 12-year career. He struck out eight over four innings.PIRATES FACE CUBS

If the Pirates are going to gain any ground on the Cubs in the National League Central, they need to beat Chicago head-to-head. It sure will not be easy against baseball's best team, who own a 22-8 record at Wrigley Field. The Bucs will hope Francisco Liriano (4-6, 4.92 ERA) can somehow outduel the dominant Jake Arrieta (10-1, 1.86) on Friday.
