After a hard-fought interleague series against fellow MLB World Series hopefuls the Washington Nationals, the Cleveland Indians got back to business as usual in the American League (AL) as they trounced the Los Angeles Angels 14-4.

Mike Trout opened the scoring early for the Angles on Thursday, scoring a one-run homer at the top of the first before the Indians hit back at the bottom of the same inning, piling on five runs including a Carlos Santana homer.

And it was one-way traffic from there as the Indians hit the scoreboard in the next four innings straight to put the result beyond doubt and improve to 64-48.

The Houston Astros piled on the runs in their double header against the Minnesota Twins.

A 15-7 win capped off a day where the Astros managed 25 runs, as Jose Altuve went four-for-five in a three RBI performance. Before that, he went five-for-five as the Astros won 10-2.

The Boston Red Sox continued to struggle on home turf against the New York Yankees as the visitors won their second contest in as many days in Alex Rodriguez's penultimate game. And A-Rod did not disappoint, scoring an RBI as the Yankees prevailed 4-2.

The Arizona Diamondbacks had an easier time of it against the New York Mets, shutting out their opponents 9-0, while the Pittsburgh Pirates were also on the right side of a shutout, beating the San Diego Padres 4-0.

The Colorado Rockies also impressed with the bat as they beat the Texas Rangers 12-9, while the Milwaukee Brewers also struck double-figures in their 11-3 win over the Atlanta Braves.

Elsewhere, the Baltimore Orioles knocked off the Oakland Athletics 9-6 and the Chicago Cubs needed 11 innings to beat the St Louis Cardinals 4-3.
