Retired NBA legend Kobe Bryant won an Oscar at the Academy Awards on Sunday, March 4.

Kobe who retired from from basketball two seasons ago, won an Oscar award for his "Dear Basketball" movie.

The movie emerged winner of the Academy Award for best animated short, and was a collaboration with between the legendary John Williams and Glen Keane.

Speaking upon receiving his award Kobe thanked the Academy and creators of the movie.

He said, "Thank you, Academy, for this amazing honor. Thank you, John Williams, for such a wonderful piece of music. Thank you, Verizon, for believing in the film."


The Basketball icon also thanked his family upon receiving the award, "Thank you, Molly Carter, without you we wouldn't be here. And to my wife Vanessa, our daughters Natalia, Gianna, and Bianka. Ti amo con tutto il mio cuore. You are my inspiration. Thank you so much, guys, thank you."

Kobe was a member of the NBA all-star team 15 times in the course of his career, and also emerged the leading scorer in the NBA for two seasons.

He won the NBA Championship five times with the Los Angeles Lakers, and has the third highest points in NBA history.
