Kim Hyo-joo storms into the lead at The Evian Championship in France

South Korean Kim Hyo-joo fired a stunning 10-under 61 to take a four-shot lead at The Evian Championship in France.

Kim's stunning blemish-free round headlined the first day of action in Evian-les-Bains as she racked up the lowest score in LPGA major history.

The 19-year-old hit 10 birdies, including four from her final six holes to finish the day full of momentum at the fifth and final major of the season.

Australian Karrie Webb " winner of seven major titles " is in outright second after a six-under 65.

Webb hit eight birdies, including four in a row from holes nine to 12, but finished on a bogey.

Kim's countrywoman, Hur Mi-jung is a shot further adrift in third at five under while defending champion Suzann Pettersen remains within striking distance.

The Norwegian and American Brittany Lincicome are tied for fourth at four under after shooting rounds of 67.

Pettersen's round was highlighted by five successive birdies on a hot streak between holes five and nine.

A total of six players " Sarah Jane Smith, Dewi Claire Schreefel, Amy Yang, Mariajo Uribe, Karine Icher and Julieta Granada " are all locked level in a tie for sixth at three under.
