Jesper Parnevik will not be surprised if Davis Love III overlooks Bubba Watson for the final place in the United States' Ryder Cup team.

USA captain Love this week named Rickie Fowler, J.B. Holmes and Matt Kuchar as captain's picks for the contest at Hazeltine in Minnesota.

World number seven Watson is the favourite to secure the last place in the USA team to face holders Europe, with Love set to announce his final selection on September 25 - just five days before the prestigious event gets under way.

Two-time Masters champion Watson has featured in each of the last three Ryder Cups, but Parnevik - who won the tournament twice with Europe - feels chemistry within the team is more important than rankings.

The Swede told Omnisport: "I wouldn't be surprised if he was left out and I would not be surprised if he is picked either.

"He played two Ryder Cups ago [in Medinah in 2012] and think he did pretty well, but every captain has their ways of making picks. We will see at the end of the Ryder Cup whether they were good ones or bad ones.

"The USA has struggled in the past with getting the right chemistry when it comes to the players, I have no idea what Davis Love has in mind.

"When I played with Sergio [Garcia] or me and Ignacio Garrido, or Per-Ulrik Johansson, the reasons why we won was because we were very comfortable with each other and that's more important than having two guys who are playing well being picked to play together.

"The chemistry is more important than what players are picked. It all depends on what Davis Love has in mind for his combinations, that will be more of a factor maybe than who is playing well the week or days before."

Former world number seven Parnevik also questioned the USA's policy of naming their final pick so close to the start of the Ryder Cup.

"It is a strange situation to get a call in pretty much the same week in which you will be playing. The ones I have been involved in, all the players want to prepare themselves mentally for the Ryder Cup and work out what they will do the week before etc," he said.

"It will be interesting to see how the player reacts to being picked in the same week as they will be playing in the Ryder Cup."
