Don’t be discouraged being left out, Coach tells home-based athletes
Some home-based athletes are unhappy with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for leaving them out.
Soetan gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, as some home-based athletes continued to express displeasure over being snubbed in the international competition.
“I can only tell the home-based athletes to exercise patience; I pray that the new board that takes over in May will improve the standard of the athletes.
“Our local league must be revived, where local athletes would gain more than they normally get attending international championships. As for me, Nigeria has no business attending World Relays this year.
“The federation that claims it has no money to organise local league to prepare its athletes for the season is venturing into international competition.
“We stand little chance of making tangible impact,” Soetan said.
NAN reports that home-based athletes are unhappy with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for leaving them out in the list of athletes to represent the country at the IAAF World Relays.
The competition is scheduled for April 22 to April 23 in Nassau, Bahamas.
