Hawke's Bay retained the Ranfurly Shield with a hard-fought 36-17 ITM Cup win over Bay of Plenty in difficult windy conditions in Napier.
Fresh from a stunning 41-0 Shield victor over Otago, Saturday's contest was a far more bruising one for Hawke's Bay as their opponents had Cullum Retallick (high tackle) shown a yellow card in the first half and Tino Nemani (dangerous lifting tackle) given a straight red with two minutes of the match remaining.
First-five Ihaia West and winger Ryan Tongia each chalked up a double for the hosts after lock Michael Allardice had scored his side's opener.
An error-strewn match between Auckland and North Harbour saw the hosts emerge as 32-7 winners at Eden Park.
North Harbour, bottom of the Championship, were guilty of missing tackles and kicking poorly, but Auckland were also far from their best.
Ben Lam, Hadleigh Parkes, Gafatasi Su'a and Gareth Anscombe all crossed for the home side to seal the victory, with Pita Ahki on the scoresheet for the visitors.
Elsewhere, Championship leaders Manawatu were 36-17 winners against Southland.
