World number 16 Matt Kuchar is keen to be part of United States' Olympic golf team for the Rio Games.

Rio 2016 will mark golf's return to the Olympics, with the sport included at the Games for the first time since 1904.

Only four top-15 players from any one nation will qualify, and then a maximum of two once you get outside the top 15.

That leaves Kuchar with work to do, with Jordan Spieth (2nd), Bubba Watson (3rd), Rickie Fowler (5th), Jim Furyk (6th), Dustin Johnson (7th), Zach Johnson (12th) and Jimmy Walker (14th) all currently ranked above him.

"Myself as a fan of sports, as a kid growing up watching every sort of sport you could imagine, the Olympics is something that I think every kid dreams about doing at one stage," Kuchar said.

"Awfully exciting now that golf is a part of the Olympics again, that my sport has a chance, that I have a chance to compete in the Olympics.

"I think that is one of those things that you dream about, that you only wish you could be a part of."

Kuchar is playing at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio, starting Thursday.
