A strong second half saw Auckland come from behind to take a 27-12 ITM Cup win against Bay of Plenty on Saturday.
For the second successive match Auckland gave the opposition a head start only to kick into gear after the break and keep them scoreless.
Last weekend they trailed Wellington by 24 points before winning 31-30. This time, Bay of Plenty were only 12-0 up at half-time and that deficit was quickly overhauled after some sharp words from Auckland coach Paul Feeney sparked his side.
The visitors were worthy of their first-half lead but could not hold on in the face of an Auckland revival, with Lolagi Visinia touching down twice for the hosts.
Gareth Anscombe also crossed for Auckland, while Joe Royal and Johan Bardoul chalked up tries for Bay of Plenty.
In the day's other fixture, Southland first-five Lima Sopoaga landed a match-winning conversion after the siren as the hosts earned a hard-fought 36-34 victory against Northland.
Southland winger Lolohea Loco dived over out wide in the last play of the game to tie the scores, leaving Sopoaga with the kick to put two consecutive defeats firmly behind them.
Also on the scoresheet for the home side were Keanu Kahukura, Mark Jackman and Tim Boys, while Matt Moulds touched down for Northland and team-mate Matt Wright added two to his tally.
