Xherdan Shaqiri's names was mispronounced on Sky Sports as Colombian pop star, Shakira
New Stoke City signing Xherdan Shaqiri has not kicked a ball yet, but his name has made the news several times.
Retail stores according to the Stoke City's website have also been receiving an unprecedented level of orders with the Shaqiri-printed '22' shirts.
The arrival of the Switzerland international has also prompted fans of the club to buy out all the tickets for their next game against Tottenham have all been purchased.
Despite the waves his name has made since arriving England, it seems many still have a problem pronouncing his name.
Former English footballer Stuart Pearce is one of the guilty persons who have mispronounced Shaqiri's name, instead referring to him as Colombian pop star , Shakira.
While appearing as a guest for Sky Sports News, the former Manchester City and Nottingham Forest manager was commenting on plethora of talents on Stoke City's book when he made the mistake.
A slew of reactions have trailed the faux on Twitter.
Shaqiri is nonetheless excited at the prospect of playing in the Premier League after securing a long-awaited move to Stoke City.
"I am very happy, and incredibly excited that this transfer to Stoke City has finally happened," he said.
"Over the past three days I have met great people at the club and witnessed the wonderful atmosphere at the Britannia Stadium on Sunday [against Liverpool]. That experience was overwhelming.
"My special thanks go to the manager, Mark Hughes, chief executive Tony Scholes and [technical director] Mark Cartwright for their work in helping to make this deal happen over the past few months.
"I sincerely appreciate it so much, and will give my utmost to pay them and the supporters back on the pitch over the coming months and years.
"I can't wait to meet my new team-mates and make my debut for the club. It feels great to finally be a Potter!"
