Four days after winning the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON), the Super Falcons are yet to receive a word from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari.

The Super Falcons on Saturday, December 3 beat Cameroon 1-0 to lift the 2016 AWCON title.

They arrived in Lagos the next day before flying to Abuja where they are expected to meet the president.

Since arriving on the evening of Sunday, the Super Falcons, however, have not gotten any message from the presidency.

Buhari's only word on the Super Falcons' AWCON title win has been just a message from his official Twitter account and a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.

"A very sweet and well-deserved victory for the Super Falcons, African champions for the 8th time. Congratulations to the Team, & to Nigeria,"  Buhari said via his Twitter account.

The players who are currently staying at the Agura Hotel are also demanding their allowances and bonuses from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Although the NFF have promised to pay all their outstanding allowances, the players have stated that they will not be leaving the hotel accommodation until they receive their payment.

According to BBC Sport, the players are being owed allowances from both the qualifiers and the tournament proper.

"We are tired of the lies and false promises from the NFF," a player anonymously told BBC Sport.

"They told us we would be paid before the tournament in Cameroon, but that never happened.

"We continued playing and now we are owed additional allowances and bonuses for winning the competition itself.

The only thing we understand right now is for them to pay and stop making promises.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick on Sunday, December 4 told Pulse Sports that the body is trying their best to secure funding to pay the Super Falcons.

You know the situation in the country right now, things are hard and all the sectors have been badly affected, including sports,” Pinnick told Pulse Sports.

We understand what the players have gone through, we are trying our best.

Pulse Sports was with the players on Sunday when they arrived Lagos just a day after winning the 2016 AWCON title.

From the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, the players went to the Ambassador Hotel in Lekki where they were hosted by the Group Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Dr Stella Okoli.

From the hotel, they went to the Ikeja City Mall before going back to the airport for their flight to Abuja.

All through these intra-Lagos movements, several of the Super Falcons players expressed their displeasure at NFF.

One of the players also lost her dad during the tournament, she has no money to go back home for the funeral, this is a disgrace after helping Nigeria to win a major competition,” a Super Falcons player unanimously told Pulse Sports.
