“Our best player” - Steve Bruce praises Semi Ajayi as he signs new contract
Semi Ajayi has signed a three-year extension with West Brom much to the delight of coach Steve Bruce.
The Super Eagles defender had just one year left on his contract prior to this extension and was linked with a move away from the Hawthorns.
West Brom failed to gain promotion to the Premier League this season which is why it was expected unlikely they would keep Semi Ajayi who was one of their best players.

Semi Ajayi has been a standout performer for the Baggies even though the season ended in the disappointment of not even making the promotion playoffs at least.
West Brom boss Steve Bruce alluded to that fact in his statement on the signing “I’m absolutely delighted Semi has committed his future to us, he’s arguably been our best player since I arrived at the club back in February, and I believe he has all the attributes needed to be a Premier League defender,” the former Newcastle manager said.
Bruce continued “This signing is key for us in terms of what we want to do next season and the rebuild which needs to happen. Semi is a crucial player in our team and I’m delighted he’s extended his stay.”
Semi Ajayi’s stats
The 28-year old centre back played 31 games this season, 27 as a starter and has cemented himself as a key part of the team aiming to get promoted next season.
Ajayi has now played 110 games in his West Brom career which is the most appearances he has ever made for any team in his career, two more than he did at Rotherham United.
"This club feels like home to me. I can now look forward to next season & doing my best to help this club get back to the Premier League. Hopefully we can bring players in who are going to kick us on," Ajayi’s comments alluded to the fact that he feels at home at West Brom.
