Osimhen has seen his star status at Napoli challenged this season but has won the support of an influential Italian journalist

Victor Osimhen and Giovanni Simeone are in contention for the same number 9 spot at Napoli

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has got the seal of approval as the best striker at Italian Serie A side Napoli.

The Napoli record signing has seen his position as the Partenopei's chief goalscorer come under threat early this season from a trio of new signings including Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Giacomo Raspadori, and Giovanni Simeone.

Kvaratskhelia currently leads the goal-scoring chart for Napoli this season with four (4) goals and two (2) assists while Osimhen, Raspadori, and Simeone have all scored two (2) goals a piece.

However, despite being out with injury, Italian journalist Paolo del Genio has stated that he would pick Osimhen over the other strikers in the Napoli squad.

In an interview with Tele A as reported by Area Napoli, Del Genio listed his relentless energy and constant pressure on the opposing defence as some of the attributes that stand Osimhen out amongst Luciano Spalletti's other options.

The Italian journalist stressed that despite Raspadori and Simeone both delivering in Osimhen's absence, he would still prefer the Super Eagles striker for the future.

Del Genio said: "We won even without Victor Osimhen, but I definitely bet on him for the future as well. Maximum respect for Raspadori and Simeone, but I keep all the Nigerian lives without any flaws he has.

"He fights on all the balls, puts the opponent's defenses in crisis, I always keep him on the pitch."

Osimhen has been out of action for Napoli since early September after picking up a hamstring injury in the Champions League fixture against Liverpool.

However, the Nigerian international is back in training and expected to be fit for Napoli's Champions League clash with Ajax Amsterdam on Tuesday, October 4.
