Labour Party vice presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed says it will be a new dawn for Nigerian sports if his party is elected into office next month.

Baba-Ahmed made this promise during the peoples townhall, a live event put together by Channels Television on Sunday.

Nigeria's Super Eagles disappointed Nigerians when they failed to pick a ticket to the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, having also failed to go beyind the quarter-final at the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, held in Cameroon early 2021.

Speaking on the disappointments, Baba-Ahmed promised that the Labour Party will take sports seriously as it was painful to watch the global football fiesta take place in Qatar without Nigeria.

"It has pained us a lot during this World Cup season to sit and watch without Nigeria," Baba-Ahmed said.

"When African Cup comes up next, i said i will do with ASUU, i will plead with Mr President (Peter Obi0, with whoever is in charge of the Ministry of sports and youth development, to ensure that all is done to move mountains to bring the cup to Nigeria."

Speaking further on the issue, the seasoned educator also promised that under their administration, the Super Eagles will never miss out on the World Cup as Nigeria has gone beyond that stage.

"There is no way the World Cup will be played without Nigeria, we have passed that stage and it will never happen again," he added.

On the issue of salaries and allowances for athletes, Baba-Ahmed concluded by saying that the Labour Party administration will never delay payment by one hour while also promising to ensure athletes are well taken care of.

"This is entertainment, sports is entertaintment and we are going to proliferate sports, its infrastructure and rewards coming to participants. Never will salaries and allownaces be delayed by one hour."

"We will be there to ensure they are compensated and link them with industries and companies, and raise their profiles internationally," he concluded.
