Nigeria's Samuel Chukwueze had a cameo appearance for the Yellow Submarines after he came on as a late substitute.
Chukwueze replaced goal scorer Moi Gomez seven minutes from time, helping the Unai Emery's side hold on for a famous victory at Camp Nou.
Alfonso Pedraza put Villarreal ahead with a well-taken goal in the first half before Gomez doubled the advantage in the second half after a bizarre mistake from Adama Traore.

Chukwueze's Villarreal won't have the chance to replicate their exploit in the 2021/2022 Champions League season.
Villarreal defeated the likes of Juventus and Bayern Munich en route to a semi-final ticket where they were eventually knocked out by Liverpool.
Super Eagles star, Chukwueze, played a key role in that historic run by the Yellow Submarines. However, there won't be a repeat next season after the club finished seventh in the La Liga.
The Yellows will be battling it out in Europe's third-tier competition, the Europa Conference League next season after a 2-0 win over Barcelona at Camp Nou on the final day of the season.
