Ajax assigned permanent jersey numbers to all the members of their squad with the Dutch league season set to kick off on Friday, August 5 with SC Heerenveen welcoming Sparta Rotterdam to the Abe Lenstra Stadion.
Having joined Ajax on a £23m transfer from Scottish giants Rangers, Bassey is set to feature for his first season with the Dutch champions both in the Eredivisie and the UEFA Champions League.
Calvin Bassey gets number 33 at Ajax
Ahead of the new season, Ajax confirmed the full list of their registered players through an official press release on the club's website.
Calvin Bassey will wear the jersey number 33 for Ajax all through the 2022/23 season. The Nigerian International wore number 3 when he was at Rangers and currently wears jersey number 21 for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Notable Ajax players to have won the number 33 jersey at the Johan Cruyff Arena include former Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen, ex-Newcastle United full-back Vurnon Anita, and current Brighton defender Joel Veltman.
Kudus, Bergwijn, Tadic get squad numbers at Ajax
Other squad members in the Ajax team also got their permanent jersey numbers with new signing Steven Bergwijn wearing number 7, striker Brian Brobbey wearing number 9, and club captain Dusan Tadic wearing number 10.
Ghanaian youngster Mohammed Kudus gets number 20 while Manchester United targets Antony and Jurrien Timber get number 11 and 2 respectively.
Bassey would have to wait till Matchday 3 of the Eredivisie season before pulling on his official shirt with the Super Eagles star set to serve a two-match ban for the red card he picked up on his debut against PSV Eindhoven.
