Nigerian international, John Obi Mikel asks Chelsea fans to welcome Frank Lampard when Man City visit Stanford Bridge this Saturday

Mikel was talking about Saturday’s game between Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday where he asked the fans to respect and honour legend Frank Lampard who let the club after 13 years.

The Nigerian international emphasized his nine years stay at Chelsea, expressing the feeling that this season is the toughest for him, having being an irregular start and he says, he does not moan about it.

'I’ve been here for nine years and maybe this season has been one of the hardest for me.

'I suppose I am a fixture here now. 

'We all know Chelsea packs quality and, to even be in the reckoning at all is a big thing.

'The key is to keep working hard. That is what I do. I don’t complain, I don’t moan.

'I work hard and when my chance comes, I take it – and you can see that it is why the boss has faith in me.'

Lampard’s appearance in the EPL was not to be, save for a sister contract between New York City FC and Man City, however, the beef, Mikel pleads that the 33 year-old be show some love.

'Chelsea fans should definitely cheer him – there’s no question about that because Frank is a legend.

'He’s such a lovely guy – we can’t wait to ­welcome him and give him a good ovation.

'I learnt a lot from Frank. He is a very good friend of mine and we got on very well when he was here.’
