Akpeyi to replace Ikeme in goal against Algeria

Nigeria face Algeria on Saturday, November 12 in the matchday two of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Super Eagles number one goalkeeper Ikeme has been ruled out of the clash with an injury and the man who was called up to replace him in the squad will guard the post for Nigeria against Algeria.

Pulse Sports sources at the Super Eagles camp revealed that the Chippa United shot stopper has been chosen by Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr and goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu to play against Algeria.

According to the sources, the coaches think Akpeyi is the most experience goalkeeper out of the three goalkeepers in camp.

The 30-year-old was also impressive when he played for the Super Eagles in their 1-0 loss to Egypt in March 2016.

Akpeyi has also been wearing the number one jersey in training, another sign that he will be given the nod ahead of Dele Alampasu, who is training with the number 23 jersey.
