Oliseh was appointed as coach of Fortuna Sittard in December 2016 with the club on the verge of relegation from the Eerste Divisie, the second-highest tier of football in the Netherlands.

This season, Fortuna Sittard have impressed under the former Super Eagles boss and were on Friday, January 12 named Second-period champion of Eerste Divisie after beating .

But a turn of bad results has left him disaffected with Fortuna Sittard who are on run of four consecutive losses.

Non-active duties for Oliseh

The club on Wednesday, February 14 announced that Oliseh has been put on ‘non-active duties’ stopping short of saying the 43-year-old has been sacked.

"Several attempts by the club to encourage a change in the coach's behaviour have unfortunately not worked, resulting in an unworkable situation," Sittard’s statement said.

"The board of Fortuna Sittard emphasizes that the decision to suspend Sunday Oliseh is not motivated by the current sporting performance."

"The coach's unacceptable actions have made cooperation between many people within the organization impossible - from players to employees.

"Fortuna Sittard regrets the decision, but states that the club interest goes above all else."

Fall out with club's management

Reports of his sack first emerged in January although the club came out to deny the claims.

According to Dutch football website, , the club management have been unhappy over his self-ruling style of management and his open criticism of his players.

Another report stated that Oliseh’s relationship with the club’s management had totally broken down.

According to , Fortuna Sittard had overlooked Oliseh’s strong-handed approached because of the good results he was getting.

However after their excellent KNVB Cup run came to an end with a home 4-2 loss to Az Alkmaar in December 2017, Oliseh’s team started to decline.

After a 3-0 loss away at Dordrecht on Friday, January 19, Oliseh openly criticised his players.

This comment infuriated players which have dampened the atmosphere in the club.

As a sign of how bad things have gotten at the club, Sittard Geleen reported that Oliseh stayed in the dugout all through the Sittard’s home 2-1 loss to FC Emmen on Friday, January 26.

Fortuna Sittard are currently third on the Eerste Divisie are eligible to compete for two promotion places to the Eredivisie, Dutch’s top flight football.
