Marcel Desailly, George Weah to attend funeral of former Super Eagles coach

Mohammed Sanusi revealed that a host of world football legends have called to signified their interest in coming to honour Keshi

Keshi who won two African Cup of Nations twice with Nigeria- one as a player and the other as a coach- passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, June 8, 2016 in Benin City, Edo State.

Speaking at the NFF headquarter on Tuesday June 14, General Secretary  Mohammed Sanusi revealed that a host of world football legends have called to signified their interest in coming to honour Keshi including France World Cup winning defender Desailly and Liberian football great, Weah.

“We have been receiving calls from world soccer legends and I can tell you that the likes of Marcel Desailly, George Weah among others have indicated interest to grace the burial,” Sanusi said according to newspaper.

“We have promised to get back to them once the final burial arrangements have been concluded by the committee.”

Sanusi also revealed the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung will chair committee for the burial which will hold in the last week of July.

There will also be representatives from the federation, Edo and Delta States governments and members of Keshi’s family would make up the burial committee.

“We are tentatively settling for the last weekend of July as Keshi’s burial. The burial committee will soon be constituted and I can tell you that the Hon Minister of Sports and Youth Development will chair the committee,” Sanusi added.

“Other members of the committee will be drawn from the NFF, the Delta and Edo States government and members of the Keshi family.”
