Keshi who died on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 in Benin City, Edo State was appointed head coach of Togo three times between 2004 and 2011.

In the match organised by Togo's sports writers union, Association des Journalistes Sportifs du Togo (AJST) in conjunction with the sports ministry, the current Togo national side faced 'Team Keshi', made up of players who were part of his 2006 squad.
More than 20,000 fans were in attendance at the Ominsports stadium in Lome to watch the game, which finished 6-2 to the current Togo national side.
After the game, the most popular Togolese footballer, Adebayor took to his Instagram to pay tribute to Keshi.

“It was a very emotional today at the Stade Municipal de Lomé,” he wrote.
“Together with some professional players we played a game in honour of an incredible man, Stephen Keshi. He was a leader "on" and "off" the pitch. He paved the way for young African players to showcase their talents to the world. RIP "Big Boss"!
