My name is Joba Ogunwale, and I'll be your host for tonight's games.

Today's the penultimate day of the final group games, and we have already had Group F action, where Morocco and Croatia qualified with Belgium and Canada crashing out.

Tonight will see Japan take on Span while Germany take on Costa Rica. All teams still stand a chance of qualifying for the knockout stage, so there's a lot to play for.

Spain are in a comfortable position as they only need a draw against Japan to book their spot. Japan can qualify with a draw too but they will need Germany and Costa Rica's game to end in a draw. Costa Rica can qualify if they beat or draw against Germany and Japan fail to win.

Meanwhile, Germany need an outright win and hope that Japan fail to win against Spain to qualify. If Japan play a draw against Spain and Germany win, it will come down to goal difference. A Japan win over Spain and a Germany win will also see Germany and Spain battle it out on goal difference.

Japan and Spain XI
Costa Rica and Germany XI

The national anthems are done. There is a bit of history in Costa Rica's game against Germany. ,  an all-female refereeing trio led by Stephanie Frappart is taking charge of a FIFA World Cup game for the first time.

History makers.

We are underway in both games.

Germany have started with real intent as Jamal Musiala forces a brilliant save from Keylor Navas.

Spain also go close against Japan but Busquets shot was way off target.

Musiala is causing problems for Costa Rica as he shows off his quick feet, but Gortezka could not connect to his lay-up

The chances keep on coming for Germany, but Muller could not direct his header on target following a brilliant cross from Kimmich

Costa Rica 0-1 Germany. Serge Gnabry puts the four-time champions ahead with a brilliant header from Raum's cross. Costa Rica cannot have any complaints. It has been long coming.

Japan 0-1 Spain. Alvaro Morata has also put Spain ahead with a brilliant header.

As it stands now. Spain and Germany are going through.

Gnarbry's opener.

The tempo of the game has simmered down since the two favorites took the lead, but there is still about 55 minutes left in this game.

Gnarbry almost double Germany's lead with a brilliant curler.

Big chance for Costa Rica. Keysher Fuller Spence almost level the score for Costa Rica after a mixup in the German defence, Manuel  Neuer makes a vital save.

Half time in both games. Japan 0-1 Spain, Costa Rica 0-1 Germany. Spain and Germany going through as it stands.

Second half underway

Japan 1-1 Spain. We now have a twist. Japan are level through Ritsu Doan's brilliant effort. Big big goal for Japan

And they almost thought they have taken the lead, but the goal has been ruled out as the ball had gone out of play. We have a VAR review though

Japan 2-1 Spain. Unbelievable scenes as Japan's goal is given. Ao Tanaka slides home. What dramatic last five minutes

As it stands now. Germany are going out with Japan and Spain going through.

Costa Rica 1-1 Germany. More woes for Germany as Yeltsin Tejeda finishes home from a rebound after Neuer failed to stop Spence's header. Germany are now in big trouble

The goal that changed everything

Costa Rica 2-1 Germany. What is happening in this World Cup. Juan Pablo Vargas has put Costa Rica ahead.

Costa Rica 2-2 Germany. But immediately Kai Havertz restores parity for Germany. The two games tonight have had everything

Chance! Big big chance for Germany. Niclas Fullkrug had just the goal to beat but somehow Navas pulls off a remarkable save.

I just cannot keep up with the drama in this game and we still have eight minutes to go.

Costa Rica 2-3 Germany. Havertz scores his second of the game to put Germany ahead, but it will not be enough unless Spain score an equaliser against Japan

Chance for Spain to draw level twice but Gonda makes two big saves to deny Dani Olmo and Marco Asensio.

Costa Rica 2-4. Fullkrug wraps up the win for Germany. But they still need Spain to score an equaliser. Seven minutes of added time in Japan vs Spain game.

Into the last 40 seconds.

FT: Japan 2-1 Spain. It is all over. Japan have stunned Spain to finish top of Group E. La Roja finish second by the virtue of a better goal difference than Germany, whose 4-2 win over Costa Rica is not enough to see them through. This has been a night of total drama. What a World Cup this has turned out to be

That's it from my end. See you tomorrow for the final round of group games.
