Mourinho master at shutting out games
Manchester United laboured to a 1-0 win away at Southampton, a game which has not added any glow to their title credentials. Southampton caused a lot of problems for Manchester United and with Manchester City blowing Crystal Palace apart 5-0 and Chelsea getting a big win at Stoke City, United looked ordinary at St Mary's Stadium.
Where his players faltered, Jose Mourinho showed immense strength and won the game for Manchester United, shutting the game out at 1-0 to get the three points. With Manchester United leading 1-0 and Southampton getting in the game, Mourinho made his changes; bringing in Ander Herrera for Juan Mata in the 62nd minute, Chris Smalling for Henrik Mkhitaryan in the 75th and Daley Blind for Marcus Rashford in the 90th.
All defensive changes, locking up his defence to protect his 1-0 lead and that’s why Mourinho is favourite to win the Premier League.
While Manchester City’s rapid attacking force makes them the clear favourites, it will be difficult to win the title by strictly outplaying and dominating teams. The season will get tougher as the games come, injuries and fatigue will set in too.
Pep Guardiola’s adherence to playing football the proper way might hurt him but Mourinho knows when to shutout games and that’s why he is dangerous.
Diego Costa out, Morata in
Alvaro Morata came into the Premier League as a young brilliant striker who has not yet fulfilled his potential. The jury was out for the Spaniard, looking to see how he would cope in the tough English league. Six games in and he already has six goals including this weekend hat-trick at Stoke City. This is supposed to be Stoke City, one of the toughest and fearsome sides in the Premier League.
The way Morata dismantled Stoke City has surprised many. He was tough, played with great pace, and energy which were very difficult for them to handle.
Diego Costa just concluded his move back to Atletico Madrid and in a week where Chelsea fans were supposed to be ruing the exit of the Spain international, Morata has announced himself real quick.
Chelsea clear Premier League favourites
Much has been said about the Manchester teams, City and United but Chelsea are not behind them in anyway as title favourites.
Yes, they lost their first game and could not beat Arsenal at Stamford Bridge but that opening day defeat to Burnley is a completely forgotten case now while the Gunners will trouble teams this season especially if they play the way they did against Antonio Conte side.
Their 4-0 win away Stoke City where Arsenal and Manchester United have failed to win this season shows how good they are. Don’t ignore them, we already did that last season and we all saw how that turned out.
