Stoke City forward out for 2 weeks

Stoke City manager reveals that Osaze Odemwingie has suffered a hamstring injury in training

Nigeria international and Stoke City forward Osaze Odemwingie has been injured again and is expected to be put for two weeks.

The former Bendel Insurance of Benin player injured a crucial ligament on his knee in Stoke’s English Premier League 1-0 win over Manchester City in August 2014.

The injury meant that the 33-year-old Nigerian International missed most of the season only returning in the last month of the season.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes revealed  that the forward suffered a hamstring injury in training.

“Unfortunately Peter has got a hamstring strain and is likely to miss the next couple of weeks,” Hughes said at the pre-match press conference.

“It’s disappointing for him because he has worked tremendously hard throughout pre-season.”

This new injury setback is a blow to the Nigeria international who had targeted to return to goal scoring form.

Stoke City have signed Zherdan Shaqiri from Inter Milan which makes competition for places more intense.

Odemwingie is however not scared of the competition.

In his interview with Stokesentinel, Odemwingie said he is excited about the competition for places in the side.

“There is a lot of competition, but that only excites me. It means we are going to do well as a group,” the Super Eagles forward said.
