Martins departed to England for surgery after an injury in an AFC Champions League game between Shanghai Shenhua and Kashima Antlers on Tuesday, April 3.

Obafemi Martins was injured playing for Shanghai Shenhua in the AFC Champions League.

The 33-year-old was instrumental for Shanghai Shenhua before his injury; he scored the winner in the Chinese FA Cup final to take his team to the Asian Champions League.
Shanghai Shenhua posted a picture of Martins in the hospital on their official Instagram and Twitter accounts to confirm that his surgery was successful.
The picture of Martins was accompanied with a message that said, “Martins had a successful surgery in UK.”
Martins contributed a total of four goals for Shanghai Shenhua since the start of the new season in the Chinese Super League (CSL).
Martins injury has sidelined him from a possible return to the Super Eagles ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup as he is expected to be out for up to seven months.
Martins has played for several top sides in Europe such as Inter Milan, Newcastle United, Wolfsburg, Rubin Kazan before his move to the United States with Seattle Sounders.
