Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt Captain, Festus Austin, says the team will give their best in its final Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game against Akwa United on Oct. 2.

Austin made the assertion in a statement in Port Harcourt on Wednesday by the club’s Media Officer, Sammy Wejinya.

Austin said that a victory in the club’s final away game against Akwa United would be crucial to its chances of qualifying for the African Football Confederation (CAF) Champions League next season.

He appealed to the fans to still believe in them in spite of their disappointing failure to beat Abia Warriors at home, saying: “We just have to look ahead to our next game.

“I want to assure the fans that we will go to Uyo to get a result that will enable us to qualify for the CAF Champions League.

“The fans must rally round the players as we will fight till the end,’’ the statement said.

NAN reports that Rivers United is second on the NPFL standings with 57 points from 35 matches.

United will fall short in their aspirations of winning the NPFL title if the league leaders, Enugu Rangers claim a point at home against El-Kanemi Warriors on Sunday in Enugu.
