Nigerians who have to improve for November’s World Cup qualifiers

Which of Gernot Rohr’s players have to play better when the Super Eagles play next month?

Super Eagles of Nigeria

Nigeria’s double-header with the Central African Republic went relatively well in the end. After a disastrous performance in Lagos, the Super Eagles got even in Douala on Sunday, defeating the Wild Beasts 2-0 after goals from Leon Balogun and Victor Osimhen.

Despite the success, there were some underwhelming performances for Gernot Rohr’s men, and the German tactician will hope they improve before November’s make-or-break fixtures.

Moses Simon

The Nantes man is a creative presence for the Ligue 1 club but continues to frustrate in the green jersey.

His final ball was often erratic in both games against CAR and his showings left a lot to be desired. Without a doubt, he has what it takes to thrive for the Super Eagles who need a player of his profile and end product when he’s on his game.

Leon Balogun

Despite scoring in Sunday’s win, the Rangers center-back’s showing in Lagos was rather worrying.

He seemed tentative in possession and delivered an error-strewn showing in the 1-0 defeat, where he was ultimately at fault for CAR’s goal at the death.

His well-taken effort in the 2-0 success certainly hasn’t erased the calamitous display in the preceding loss on home soil.

Joe Aribo

For all his talent, there’s a feeling Gernot Rohr isn’t getting the best out of the attacking midfielder. He seems suited to a three-man midfield or an inside right position but hasn’t been played in that role for the national team.

Aribo’s strengths aren’t being utilized and it’s beginning to affect his displays for the West African nation.
