Ikechukwu Ezenwa (Katsina United/Nigeria)
None of Nigeria’s notable goalkeepers was in action last weekend except Ikechukwu Ezenwa who played the whole 90 minutes for Katsina United who were beaten 1-0 away at Wikki Tourists. Although Ezenwa conceded a goal in the game, he pulled off some saves for his side.
Off the three Super Eagles goalkeepers (including Francis Uzoho and Daniel Akpeyi) Ezenwa has been the most active and in form.
Oghenekaro Etebo (Stoke City/England)
Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo put in the shift as usual for Stoke City who were held to a goalless draw away at West Brom on Saturday, April 27. A midfielder, Etebo comes in at right-back with right full back of note from the weekend in review.
Kenneth Omeruo (Leganes/Spain)
Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo had one of his best performances in a Leganes shirt yet in their goalless draw at home to Celta Vigo. Omeruo was solid in defence and made a goal-line clearance that ensured that his side got point from the La Liga game. He was named Man of the Match and made last week’s La Liga team of the Week.
Chidozie Awaziem (Riezespor/Turkey)
Chidozie Awaziem continued in his good form for Rizespor in their goalless draw away at Sivasspor. Since joining the Turkish side on loan from Porto, Awaziem has become of their best players and has had a remarkable contribution to the team.
Jamilu Collins (Paderborn/Germany)
Super Eagles left-back Jamilu Collins made this XI with his impressive performance for Paderborn who got a 3-1 win at home over FC Heidenheim in the 2. Bundesliga, the second division in Germany. Collins continues to be a consistent player for Paderborn and was an attacking threat for them all through the game.
Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City/England)
Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi delivered a very good 45-minute performance for Leicester City who trashed Arsenal 3-0. Ndidi played only the first half before he was taken off at halftime but his performance was enough to get him on his XI. He was his usual active self in midfield as he tackled and intercepted a couple of Arsenal moves from defensive midfield.
Mikel Obi (Middlesbrough/England)
Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi captained the Middlesbrough side to a 2-1 home win over Reading in the Championship. Mikel dictated the tempo of the game and made some key tackles in the game.
Samuel Chukwueze (Villarreal/Spain)
Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze continued his fine season with Villarreal and provided the assist to their only goal in their 1-1 draw at home to Huesca. Chukwueze was Villarreal’s most dangerous player in the game, dribbling two Huesca players before cutting back to Pablo Fornals who fired him for Villarreal’s goal.
Sylvester Igboun (FK UFA/Russia)
Nigerian forward Sylvester Igboun grabbed a brace for FK UFA in their 4-1 win over Ural Yekaterinburg in the Russian Premier League. Igboun netted twice late in the game to seal the comeback win for FC UFA. He now has nine league goals this season for FC UFA.
Paul Onuachu (FC Midtjylland/Denmark)
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu netted a brace for FC Midtjylland in their 2-1 win away at Nordsjaelland in the Danish Superliga Playoff on Monday night. He was a menace to the home team as he troubled the defence all evening. His two goals came from inside the box where he was just the quickest to a loose ball on both occasions.
Victor Osimhen (Sporting Charleroi/Belgium)
Inform Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen grabbed his 15th goal of the season for Sporting Charleroi in their 2-2 away draw at Oostende in the group stage of the Belgian First Division A Europa League Play-offs. He netted in the 68th minute to level for Sporting Charleroi in the game. That was his fourth goal in the Play-Offs.
