Mikel Obi Super Eagles midfielder split from longtime agent Shittu

Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has split from his longtime agent John Olatunji Shittu.

Mikel has been managed by Shittu for most of his professional career and negotiated his controversial move to Chelsea in 2006.

Mikel had signed a pre-contract agreement with Manchester United but opted out of in controversial fashion to sign for rivals Chelsea.

After working together for more than 10 years, the midfielder and the prolific football agent have parted ways.

The split happened in 2014 before the midfielder left Chelsea for Chinese Super League (CSL) side, Tianjin Teda.

Mikel confirmed that it his new agent that negotiated the transfer to Tianjin Teda.

My contract with Shittu ended few years ago. He is no longer my agent because there was no extension after the expiration of our former agreement “, Mikel told Own Goal Nigeria.

I will also want you to know that he didn’t broker my deal to Tianjin Teda. My move to China was handled by a different agent entirely not Shittu.

Despite ending their working relationship, Mikel and Shittu are still close friends as the midfielder attended the wedding of the football agent in June 2016.
