Memphis Depay wants to wear the famous No 7 shirt of Manchester United
Following the exit of Angel di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain, new Manchester United signing Memphis Depay has asked to for the No 7 shirt.
The forward who was signed this summer from PSV has asked for the iconic jersey which has been worn by Manchester United legends like George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Louis van Gaal is yet to inform his players of their squad numbers this season and is said to be impressed with Depay's request for the No 7 shirt seeing it as an indication that he is willing to follow in the footstep of the legends who had worn that jersey in the past.
Depay wore the No 9 shirt during the Red Devils' pre-season tour of the USA, and that shirt is also available.
If given the shirt, Depay will be hoping not to follow in the footsteps of the last three players who won the shirt.
Michael Owen wore the shirt during his injury hit stay at the club before Antonio Valencia-who move to No 25- and Di Maria who had a below par first and only season at Manchester United after his £60million record transfer from Real Madrid last August.
