Nigeria youth international officially promoted to Manchester City first team
Kelechi Iheanacho was announced at Manchester City 2014/15 season launch part as one of the players that have been promoted to the first team
Iheanacho had a fantastic outing for in pre-season, scoring in the game against FC Roma and also played in a friendly against Real Madrid.
In the game against Stuttgart, Iheanacho came on at half time to replace Wilfried Bony and scored in the 84th minute of the match.
His impressive performance seems to have convinced head coach Manuel Pellegrini that 18-year-old can now be part of his first team squad as they look to regain the English Premier League title from Chelsea.
Belgian footballer Jason Denayer and Portuguese youth star Rony Lopes are the other academy players who were promoted alongside Iheanacho.
According to Complete Sports, a source close to the player has revealed that the 18-year-old will stay at Manchester City this season.
Pellegrini's men has already sent some youth stars-Jack Byrne, Seko Fofana, Angelino, Enes Unal and Olivier Ntcham- on loan but Iheanacho looks set to stay.
“The picture is now getting clearer, he (Kelechi) is looking more likely to stay at Manchester City,” the source, who works closely with Iheanacho is quoted to say by Complete Sports.
“He is involved in every session with the first team players and that has been encouraging for the player.”
City open their new Premier League season away to West Brom on Monday, August 10.
